Morocco experienced a devastating earthquake (7.2 on the Richter scale of 9) on the night of Friday September 8 at 11:11 p.m., which was significantly felt in the Casablanca area (250 km from the epicenter located south of Marrakech).
All of our COMECA MAROC employees are safe and sound despite a weekend spent mostly outside their homes, and the premises located in Médiouna in Greater Casablanca have generally resisted but cracks in the factory have been detected this morning (and are under investigation).
Some of our employees are from the region where the earthquake struck and some families were unfortunately bereaved and/or some of their members were injured. All COMECA MAROC employees observed, Monday at 8 a.m., a minute of silence in tribute to the deceased and a reading of the “Al fatiha” Surat, then the half-masting of the national flag in accordance with the national mourning decreed.
Our Director, Abdelkarim Ait-Brick sent us the following message: “On behalf of all COMECA Morocco employees, we would like to thank all our COMECA colleagues around the world who queried about our condition and for their messages of support and compassion”.

Our company decided to join the National Solidarity Campaign and supported local associations with food and tent donations for the affected population.
COMECA, in Morocco as elsewhere, stands ready to respond to requests that the Moroccan authorities may make in order to contribute to the relief of the populations and to the reconstruction to come.
Best regards,
