Rouen Moves Toward a Greener Future with Comeca: An Ambitious Energy Transition

Rouen is taking a major step in its energy transition with an ambitious project dedicated to sustainable mobility. Comeca is proud to support the city by providing innovative e-mobility solutions and reinforcing its role as a trusted partner.

A Charging Network for Retrofitted Electric Buses

Since early 2025, several Comeca charging stations have been installed in Rouen to support the shift to an electric public transport fleet. The project aims to equip the city with charging solutions tailored to the needs of retrofitted buses, including:

  • 9 stations already operational
  • 11 additional stations to be activated by the end of January 2025
  • 8 more stations expected by the end of February, for a total of 28 stations for retrofitted electric buses

These installations are specifically designed to meet the requirements of electric public transport, ensuring fast, efficient, and accessible charging while respecting the city’s environmental goals.

Retrofitting: A Solution for a Sustainable Future

Retrofitting and the conversion of diesel-powered vehicles into electric ones—is at the heart of this project. In this context, Comeca is actively involved in converting diesel Crossway buses into electric school buses.
Retrofitting represents an eco-friendly and cost-effective alternative for major cities, extending the life of existing vehicles while reducing their carbon footprint.

This retrofit project, led by Métropole Rouen Normandie, is a strategic decision. Instead of purchasing new vehicles, the city chose to convert its current fleet, highlighting its strong commitment to sustainable development and energy transition. With this initiative, Rouen aims to reduce CO₂ emissions, improve air quality, and promote greener mobility.

A Metropolis Committed to Sustainable Development

Rouen’s approach aligns fully with the objectives of energy transition. By choosing retrofitting, the city is betting on innovation and durability while optimizing costs associated with new vehicle acquisition.
This model, combining fleet modernization with high-quality charging infrastructure, positions Rouen as a key player in sustainable mobility in France.
