Hyd’Occ: A Revolution for Green Hydrogen in France
The Hyd’Occ project marks a major turning point in the development of green hydrogen in France.
Launched by the renewable energy producer Qair, this ambitious project is one of the first large-scale green hydrogen production initiatives in the country. It is primarily intended to supply the tertiary, industrial, and mobility sectors in Occitanie.
An Initial Phase of 20MW by Horizon 2025 ⚡
One of the key features of the Hyd’Occ project lies in its progressive development. With an initial phase of 20MW expected to be commissioned in 2025, this project is part of a long-term vision aimed at addressing current energy challenges while supporting the transition toward more sustainable energy sources.
COMECA’s Key Role in the Project ⚙️
COMECA, specialized in electrical energy conversion and distribution, plays a central role in this project by providing conversion solutions for the electricity needed to power the electrolyzer. This technology is essential in the hydrogen production chain, as it ensures that the electrolyzer receives an optimized and secure electrical signal. The proper functioning of this solution is crucial to guarantee efficient and reliable hydrogen production.
The Conversion Solution: A Crucial Link 🔗
The conversion system implemented for the Hyd’Occ project is divided into four 5MW units, each designed for a transformer and an IGBT rectifier. This setup has been carefully studied to maximize the overall efficiency of the site while ensuring a low impact on the electrical grid. Thanks to IGBT technology, the electrolyzer benefits from a stable signal with very low distortion, ensuring optimal quality and maximum performance.
The objective of this conversion infrastructure is therefore twofold:
maximize electrical efficiency and minimize operational costs (OPEX). These elements are essential to ensure the success of the project and the long-term performance of the system.
Controlled Manufacturing and Delivery 🏭
The conversion solution, currently being manufactured, will be delivered in four stages to ensure a gradual ramp-up of the plant. The installation and commissioning of the equipment will be carried out while guaranteeing an optimal transition from the current system.
We collaborate with European, national, and local partners to ensure controlled delivery timelines and rigorous supply chain management. This approach helps secure every stage of the project while meeting defined deadlines.
