Comeca UK designs GALAXIS switchboards for St Kitts Electricity Company

The electrical installation of the St. Kitts Electricity Company Limited was damaged by a firein the substation. Our team in the UK was tasked with designing, optimising and testing new Galaxis switchboards while improving the internal arc detection capabilities to prevent incidents.

The St. Kitts Electricity Company Limited is a public utility company on the island of St. Kitts and Nevis (two islands between the Atlantic Ocean and the Caribbean Sea belonging to the United Kingdom) which provides electrical power, transmission and distribution services for the island.

Many years ago Galaxis low voltage switchboards were manufactured and installed by Comeca UK in association with the French subsidiaries. This installation was damaged by a fire in the substation.

Following this incident, our UK subsidiary was contacted by SKELEC to manufacture the new replacement Galaxis switchboards. This was a major project as it was the first complete manufacturer's switchboard to be produced in the UK since 2007. This design will improve the service provided to the utility as it has an internal arc detection system to prevent equipment damage.

Our UK subsidiary managed the manufacture, procurement, engineering, cabling, testing and FAT. It welcomed representatives from the St. Kitts Electricity Company (SKELEC) to carry out factory acceptance tests on the first complete Galaxis 440V switchboard.

This project was a great success for Comeca UK who managed to meet the deadline despite supply chain issues due to the COVID19 pandemic. Many thanks to the whole team!
