IS2I, subsidiary of COMECA specialised in industrial automation, has completed the refurbishment work of automation and flue gas cleaning control center on the ArcelorMittal blast furnace No 2 after 11 months of work.
ArcelorMittal, a world’s leading steel and mining company, owns two blast furnaces in Fos-sur-Mer, Southern France. These industrial installations are used for smelting of cast iron and steel.
In June 2016, ArcelorMittal consulted Comeca for the refurbishment work of automation and flue gas cleaning control center on the ArcelorMittal blast furnace No 2. After six months of reserach leaded by the Comeca teams, the on-site operations started in June 2017 to be completed at the end of 2017.
ArcelorMittal benefited from the specific know-how of Comeca, who offered an industrial solution including:
The transfer of the flue gas cleaning’s automation functions from S5 PLC (old range of Siemens PLC) to S7 PLC (latest PLC range) was performed in partnership between Comeca and ArcelorMittal.On-site work was particularly sensitive since the refurbishment work was completed while the blast furnace was in operation.
Staff at Comeca committed themselves to ensuring the highest safety throughout the 12,000 hours of work that the project entailed.
A challenge won by Comeca, with a project completed on time and a blast furnace that gradually restarted at the end of the intervention.
“This project is a new trust mark from ArcelorMittal to Comeca,” explained Christophe Betencourt, Sales Engineer at Comeca. “Our customer particularly appreciated the quality of the completed research and the availability of our staff, both on-site and in our offices”.
